LIVE is a nationally registered charity operating in Andalucia.
Formed in 2005, we are a non-religious based charity aiming to identify causes for people, particularly children whose lives can be greatly improved through the generosity of our supporters. Our purpose is to capture the goodwill within large expatriate communities living in Spain by encouraging individuals and businesses to help our adopted cause through donations, fundraising, sponsorship, gifts in kind or voluntary work. For the foreseeable future all our efforts go to help the children’s home in Malaga – La Ciudad de los Niños.LIVE also collects clothes and unwanted items that the school either uses or recycles. There are lots of ways you can help. We are a small but growing charity in need of people to raise awareness of what we do and raise funds by organising events such as coffee mornings, bar quizzes, craft fairs etc. We also want to gather a list of volunteers to collect and deliver donated items and help at organised events. We raise funds through events that are fun as well as ways of contributing to a worthy cause: dinner dances, shows, walks, treasure hunts, race nights. We need your support for these functions. If you would like to make a donation you can do so by calling us on 0034 952 978 458. Or you can put a donation into the LIVE bank account; 0004 3453 43 0600190773 Little is known or published about the children’s home in Malaga. It’s Principal is Brother Juan Correa Ruiz who provides shelter, education, and a sense of family to children who have been abused, abandoned or whose parents just can’t cope. Situated on the outskirts of Malaga the home cares for more than 50 children in residence, aged from infants to 18 years old. The home provides infant, primary, secondary and special needs education for the children living there. In addition there are a host of support programmes: health, speech therapy, prevention of addictions: tobacco, alcohol, drugs; careers advice, social skills and self esteem, to name but a few. There are also a number of workshops teaching crafts and practical skills to help the older residents find work when they reach 18. The Junta de Andalucía give some financial support, but only for the children formally taken into care.
Additionally, the home cares for a further 125 children from the shanty-town on the outskirts of Malaga who would otherwise be abandoned on a daily basis for whom there is no financial support. The home clothes, feeds, and educates these children relying entirely on charitable donations to fund their care.
The outstanding feature of the Ciudad de los Niños is the undeniable sense of family and care created by Brother Juan and his team. The young people in his care are a credit to Brother Juan and a beacon for what can be achieved with children desperately in need of love, guidance, and someone who cares what happens to them in adult life. As a direct result of LIVE’s fundraising, the Home has been able to progress the refurbishing of the accommodation block, pay bills, and generally help enhance the living area of the children. We need your help to do more…… |
